Mustikatimes.com – Former U.S. President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The announcement was made by his office on Sunday, May 18, 2025.
The 82-year-old underwent medical examinations after experiencing urinary symptoms, during which a nodule was discovered on his prostate. Biden and his family are currently considering various treatment options.
“Although this is a more aggressive form of cancer, it remains hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management,” read an official statement from Biden’s personal office, as quoted by The Guardian.
According to the statement, Biden is consulting with his medical team to determine the best course of treatment.
The report stated that Biden has a Gleason score of 9, indicating that the cancer cells are highly aggressive compared to normal cells. This score is one of the key indicators of prostate cancer severity.
Prostate cancer that has metastasized, especially to the bones, becomes significantly more difficult to treat, as medications struggle to reach all the cancerous cells. However, hormone-dependent cancers like Biden’s can still be managed with hormone therapy that inhibits tumor growth.
Donald Trump, Biden’s predecessor and successor as U.S. President, expressed his concern alongside his wife, Melania Trump.
“Melania and I are deeply saddened to hear of Joe Biden’s medical diagnosis. We send our prayers and best wishes to Jill Biden and the entire family. We hope for Joe’s speedy recovery,” Trump posted on his platform, Truth Social.
Trump’s sympathetic message, referring to Biden by his first name “Joe,” was seen as an unusual gesture and reminded the public of Biden’s own expression of concern after a previous assassination attempt against Trump last year.
Kamala Harris, Biden’s former Vice President, also shared her sympathy on social media platform X, saying that she and her husband, Doug Emhoff, were saddened by the news.
“Joe is a fighter, and I know he will face this challenge with the strength, resilience, and optimism he has always shown in life and leadership,” Harris wrote.
Biden’s health has long been a central public concern, as he is the oldest president in U.S. history. After defeating Trump in the 2020 election and briefly running for re-election, Biden ultimately withdrew from the race last year and endorsed Kamala Harris as his successor.
However, Harris was later defeated by Trump in the November election, and Trump returned to the White House in January 2025.
