Mustikatimes.com – Bain, a member of the South Korean boyband Just B, made history by openly declaring himself part of the LGBTQ community on stage during their concert in Los Angeles in April 2025.
Wearing a large fur coat and sunglasses, 24-year-old Bain Just B paused his performance and told thousands of fans, “I [expletive] proud to be part of the LGBTQ community!” The crowd erupted in cheers and applause as he continued with Lady Gaga’s anthem “Born This Way.”
In an interview with BBC News, Bain said he didn’t feel nervous about coming out on stage but rather wanted to “sound cool.” He also revealed the decision was a big risk given how strict the K-pop industry is even acknowledging heterosexual relationships can be taboo.
“Some people warned me not to do it,” Bain said. “But I think society is changing. I might gain more than I lose.”
Born Song Byeonghee, Bain said he realized his sexual orientation at around age 12. Yet, due to social pressure and a conservative environment, he hid it for years even from his family.
South Korea still does not legally recognize same-sex marriage, and conservative culture often treats LGBTQ issues as taboo. However, Bain’s move has been warmly received by many fans, especially within the LGBTQ community.
A fan from the US said, “Knowing that Korea still suppresses LGBTQ people, Bain’s courage is truly inspiring.” Locally, the community also responded positively, feeling less alone and more represented.
While not everyone has accepted him yet, Bain’s openness is breaking new ground in the K-pop industry and offers hope for more inclusive representation in the future.
